Michael Mitzvah Day
Once a year, Temple Menorah sets aside a day to do good together. Michael Mitzvah Day is an annual day of service held in loving memory of Michael Porzucki, when our whole community, young and old, gathers to perform mitzvot and make a real difference for those in need.
About the day
A mitzvah is a good deed; an act of kindness rooted in Jewish values. On Michael Mitzvah Daythose values come to life across many hands-on projects in a single day. Families work side by side, children learn that they can make a difference, and our community lives out the teaching that we are here to help repair the world. It is a fitting way to honor Michael’s memory: not with words alone, but with action.
Seeing results
In 2026, together we:
Fed the hungry
Filled over 80 bags with groceries for food-insecure children, and cooked enough food to feed over 40 people at the Torrance homeless shelter.
Helped the sick
Collected 11 pints of blood, enough to save up to 40 lives.
Protected the immigrant
Created 60 immigrant-rights kits.
Sent our love to Israel
Made 60 Passover cards for children impacted by the war.
Took care of our community
Created a Meditation Garden and cleaned up the Choir Loft.
Helped the environment
Took part in a beach cleanup.
Clothed the needy
Held a clothing drive for those in need.
